Houin named finalist in Caring for Our Watersheds competition

West Holmes High School sophomore Garrett Houin recently partnered with Ashland SWCD to submit a Caring for Our Watersheds proposal to implement computer modeling in the Mohican Watershed in an attempt to reduce nutrient runoff and bacteria in our waterways. Ashland SWCD helps farmers predict & minimize phosphorus loss

In partnership with Ohio State University, Ashland SWCD will be providing access to the On-Field Ohio! phosphorus modeling tool at no cost to Ashland County farmers in 2021. The tool can help farmers explore how different management practices impact erosion and phosphorus loss from farm fields. Reduced nutrient loss is not only good for the environment, but it’s good for farmers’ bottom lines as well.
