Up the soil health game of your garden by planting a cover crop over the winter. We are offering 3 mixes; each 1# bag will seed 200-300 square feet. All orders must be picked up from the Ashland SWCD offices during normal business hours August 19-23.

• Late Cover Mix:

  Plant mid-August to mid October

  Simple cover crop mix designed to plant with a minimal window prior to the first frost & still provide the benefits of a cover crop. This combination will loosen topsoil, protect soil from erosion & nutrient loss, suppress weeds, & provide mulch in the spring & food for soil micro & macro-organisms which are crucial to healthy soil. This mix is winter hardy & will continue growth in the spring. Contains cereal rye, oilseed radish, hairy vetch, & crimson clover.

• Fall Cover Mix:

  Plant August to mid September

  Complex cover crop mix designed to winter kill, leaving a surface mulch in the spring requiring little to no management prior to planting. Ideal for cool-season vegetable spaces. This combination will loosen topsoil, protect soil from erosion and nutrient loss and suppress weeds. Surface residue will provide food for soil micro & macro organisms which are crucial for healthy soil. Contains cow pea, oilseed radish, ming bean, pearl millet, oats, & Ethiopian radish.

• Garden Raised Bed Mix: Plant August to mid September

  Complex cover crop mix designed toprovide diverse root structures & organic matter to fortify & amend depleted soils. May be used in all garden types. Provides pollinators & beneficial insects with spring & fall blooms. Contains buckwheat, flax, hairy vetch, oats, phacelia, yellow mustard, oilseed radish, Austrian winter peas.
