Habitat Stewardship and Conservation
Ashland County Soil and Water is set to host a 3 Part Series of Conservation Chats. The series will surround various topics regarding Habitat Stewardship. Spreading information about being a good habitat steward is crucial for promoting environmental sustainability and conservation. It empowers individuals and communities to take responsibility for their local ecosystems.
The first conservation chat in the series “Growing Wild” is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Hazel Willis Woods. The chat “Growing Wild” will feature a Summer Wildflower Walk and Talk along with a discussion surrounding Native Plants and Pollinators with Timothy Lavey. Joining Mr. Lavey will be Senior Service Hydrologist Nicholas Greenawalt who will be conducting a Precipitation Monitor Training.
The second installment of the three-part series titled "Branching Out" will focus on a discussion regarding Monarch SAFE fields, invasive plant control, and rare plant monitoring. Part 2 of the series is scheduled to take place at Hazel Willis Woods at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 6th.
Rare plant monitoring is very important when it comes to an ecosystem. This process is essential for understanding the health and population dynamics of these plants, assessing their habitat conditions, and implementing conservation strategies to protect them from extinction.
The third and final discussion of the series “Don’t Get Stumped” focuses on tree healthcare and risk management. This will be held Saturday November 1st at 9 a.m. at the Hazel Willis Woods.
Tree healthcare and risk management involve the practices and strategies used to ensure the health and safety of trees in urban and rural environments. This includes assessing the condition of trees, identifying potential hazards, and implementing care strategies to promote tree health and longevity.
