Farmer's Basket Markets coming to Loudonville this summer
Blooming daffodils, spring peepers and warm afternoons are very welcoming after the long Ohio winter we have endured. With the longer days and nice weather, it is a breath of fresh air to see kids on the sidewalks commuting to and from school, tractors and equipment coming out of the sheds and a smile on more faces. All of those with gardens are chomping at the bit to get their hands dirty. No matter it be a garden for home use or a garden large enough for Farm Markets it is rewarding to see it produce!
This summer Ashland Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is going to be hosting a Farmers Market in Loudonville’s Central Park two Friday’s a month May through September from 11a - 2p. These markets will feature an education event from surrounding organizations. For all children that participate in the education activity, they will receive Power of Produce Cash, also known as “POP Cash” to spend with the vendors at the markets. Some of these markets are going to coincide with the Loudonville Public Library summer lunch program. For more details on the dates of the lunch being served please contact Loudonville Public Library.
When the children are able to purchase their own produce for their family it is very rewarding and it helps the appreciation for the food that is provided through hard work. Vendors that are setting up at the market are local vendors from Ashland and surrounding counties that have put hours of dedicated time and effort into brining fresh quality products for the benefit of our children and families. If you or somebody you know would like to set up as a vendor or would like to help with an activity at the Farmers Markets in Loudonville this year, please contact Ruth McCrea at 419-281-7645.
Items of produce that will be offered will range from maple products, honey, eggs, fresh produce as well as beef and pork. Currently education actives will be provided by The Wilderness Center, Mohican State Park, Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren, Ohio Scenic Rivers and more.
