Cover Crops for the Win!

We are half way through 2021….yes I said it. Spring has been flying by here at the office and it felt like we got a little glimpse of Christmas morning here at Ashland SWCD this past week when our interseeder arrived! If you are interested in learning more about interseeding or would like to see how it works be sure to come to our demo night June 16th at 6:00 at the corner of St. Rt. 89 and 302. Our office is thrilled to offer the interseeder as another great option for planting cover crops and excited for opportunities that are available to Ashland this year.

Whether you are an experienced cover cropper or just getting started the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is offering funding to implement cover crops on your farm again this year. Sign up is happening now at the Ashland SWCD until July 2nd. The MWCD cost share program really brings great benefits to Ashland and its farmers. Over the years I have been working for Ashland SWCD we have seen an increasing number of participants and acres in this program. I am thankful for the opportunity that the program brings to local producers to implement a great practice for soil health, erosion, and overall water quality. First time participants are edible to receive $15 an acre and returning participants can receive up to $20 an acre.
