Take time to celebrate sustainability this holiday season

While December can be full of chaotic trips here and there, it is also a time we all come together to celebrate. This year while all of the chaos of gathering planning and decorating is happening, we are celebrating how to “Keep It Together”. We are proud to announce Constant Canopy’s Jason Mauck, who will be joining us in our December Conservation Chat. Mauck has an approach that fits “Keep It Together” well, he manages techniques together verses what have traditionally have been managed separately. He is coming to us from Muncie, Indiana and is named one of Successful Farming’s “Top 10 Up & Comers in Agriculture.” Mauck will be sharing how he uses his #farmweird approach to maximize profitability and return on investment while also protecting the environment.

Mauck believes in growing a sustainable agricultural industry but that modern standard production practices are broken; he believes things like soil health, clean water, healthy ecosystems of plants and bugs and properly managed livestock matter. Mauck makes a living off of his ability to think outside the box and is known on social media for his posts bearing the hashtag #farmweird. Professional landscaping is a background that he held before moving in to his current full-time farming role, therefore he is not afraid to mix things up. With trial and error, he has now developed a successful cropping system that produces more profits from less inputs called “Constant Canopy”. He says the key is all about time, space and sunlight.

“Whether you live or work on a farm or you are just interested in agriculture, this is a great opportunity to hear Jason speak about practices he is implementing on his own operation and how he is thinking of and implementing cutting-edge farming opportunities,” said Erica White, Ashland Soil & Water Conservation District watershed coordinator. “I always love hearing successful stories of farms trying something new and going out of the comfort zone! Jason Mauck is a great example of how sometimes not doing things the way they have always been done pays off.”
