Mark your calendars: Rain barrel and rain garden workshops planned at Honey Haven Farm

Thanks to funding from the National Association of Conservation Districts focusing on increasing urban agriculture programming in Ashland County, Ashland Soil & Water Conservation District will be partnering with Honey Haven Farm to host several workshops designed to help homeowners learn more about how to effectively and efficiently manage stormwater runoff on their properties.

  • Rain Barrel Workshop: Ashland SWCD will work with Valerie Smith of Honey Haven Farm to host two rain barrel workshops on March 21, 2020. A morning session will take place from 9 a.m. until noon, and an afternoon session will be offered that same day from 1-4 p.m. The workshop will cost $45, which includes both the rain barrel and conversion kit. Each attendee will leave the workshop with a rain barrel ready to install at their home. Registration is limited to 10 guests per session, and registrations can be made through Ashland SWCD’s Facebook page or by making payment directly to the Ashland SWCD office. Rain barrels reduce storm water runoff thus preventing less pollution and will reduce your water bill.

  • Rain Garden Workshop: Ashland SWCD will also partner with Smith and Honey Haven Farm to offer a rain garden workshop on May 14 at 6:30 pm. Participants will learn how to install a rain garden on their own property, what plants are best suited for rain gardens, and how rain gardens can be effective tools to improve stormwater management.

  • Rain on Main: Ashland SWCD is also planning to work with the city of Ashland and the village of Loudonville to host Rain on Main events in both locations. The events are designed to increase awareness of the importance of stormwater management and steps individual homeowners can take on their own properties that will result in better water quality for us all. For more information on our vision for this project, visit the original Rain on Main event page in Carmel, Ind.

In the meantime, don’t forget that the tree sale will end on March 30, and our spring fish sale will end on April 10.
