Ashland SWCD to Celebrate 75 years of Growing Conservation August 13
For three-quarters of a century, Ashland Soil and Water Conservation District has worked hand-in-hand with Ashland County farmers and landowners to implement conservation practices designed to protect and preserve Ashland County’s natural resources. They will be celebrating that milestone August 13 at Honey Haven Farm in Ashland.
Ashland SWCD will co-host their annual meeting along with Ashland County Farm Bureau with a barbeque pork dinner by Port-a-Cook, Honey Haven Farm’s signature soft-serve ice cream and more. The meeting will not only provide a look back on the accomplishments of the district in the last 75 years, but it will also provide a glimpse into future programming and opportunities now available to Ashland County farmers and land owners.
“Our annual meeting not only provides a great opportunity for our supporters and partners to gather and fellowship, but it’s also a great opportunity to look back and celebrate our district’s accomplishments and recognize the individuals who have helped our district over the last 75 years,” said Jane Houin, Ashland SWCD program administrator. “It’s also a great opportunity to look into the future and the ways our district is growing and evolving as we bring new programs to Ashland County, from aerial cover crop fly-on to high-tech computer modeling designed to help farmers make the decisions that are not only best for their pocketbook but also best for the environment.”
The annual meeting will focus on the election of two new board supervisors as well as recognizing the districts Cooperator of the Year, Horizon Award winner, Volunteer of the Year, and recognition of FFA soils judging team members.
Candidates for board supervisor include William Bauldauf, Valerie Hall, and Justin Ringler. Elections and fellowship start at 5:00 p.m. with elections closing at 6:30 p.m. All Ashland County landowners and/or residents are eligible to vote. Those unable to attend the meeting but still interested in voting may do so by visiting the Ashland SWCD office or calling at 419-281-7645.
The annual meeting is a family-friendly event. Tickets are $5 each with children 12 and under free. To RSVP, please call Ashland Farm Bureau at 330-263-7456 by August 6th.
