Pond design

Ashland SWCD does not design ponds. We recommend landowners utilize a reputable contractor and soil scientist to meet their pond design and construction needs.

Calculating pond size

• For rectangular ponds, multiply the length times the width in feet, then divide by 43,560. Irregularly shaped pond can usually be estimated using this method.

• For circular ponds, multiply the permitter of your pond in feet by itself, then divide by 547,390.

Pond maintenance

We recommend the use of Nature’s Pond Conditioner as well as fish species like amur and koi to help control vegetation in your pond. Steve Fender’s Pond Management book is also a great resource; all are available in our spring and fall fish sales.
